Produced with English Theatre Milan and hosted at Liceo Berchet, this workshop on climate change and the socio-politics of food brought together artists, students, scientists, writers, and community members in Milan.
The session took up the intersection of food systems, climate change, and cultural politics, foregrounding how colonial histories, industrial agriculture, and hybrid seeds shape what ends up on a plate. Food is where climate change stops being an abstraction — it arrives as price, as availability, as the disappearance of a variety someone's grandmother used to grow.
Participants traced food journeys from farm to table and shared personal food memories, examining traditional food knowledge from both Indian and Italian contexts side by side. Improvisational storytelling and collaborative visual mapping were used to connect individual experience with the global systems that shape it, so that a memory of a family meal and a question about supply chains could sit in the same conversation.
The workshop drew strong engagement across disciplinary and cultural backgrounds, heightened awareness of food sovereignty and climate resilience, and was recognised by the host institution as a model for interdisciplinary climate education.
