About the event

STREAM OF CONSCIOUSNESS

Creative Writing Workshop

This 2 hour creative writing workshop explores James Joyce's stream-of-consciousness technique and its application to contemporary writing practice.

Using passages from Joyce's Dubliners as a springboard, participants engage with sensory description, interior monologue, and the art of transforming personal memory into narrative. The workshop moves between guided reading, individual writing exercises, and group sharing.

This event is free and open to all. No prior writing experience is required.

What This Is

This is a free creative writing workshop facilitated by Kaivalya Plays as part of Bloomsday Week at Triveni Kala Sangam.

It is designed as a welcoming, focused space for creative exploration. Whether you write fiction, poetry, journalism, plays, or have never written creatively before, this workshop offers practical tools for developing a distinctive literary voice. Joyce's techniques are not museum pieces. They are living tools for anyone who wants to write with honesty and precision about the world they inhabit.

What to Expect

  • Guided reading and discussion of key passages from James Joyce's Dubliners

  • Stream-of-consciousness writing exercises rooted in personal experience

  • Sensory description techniques for capturing place, memory, and emotion

  • Collaborative storytelling activities and group sharing

  • Exploration of the cultural and historical context of Dublin and Irish literary traditions

No prior reading of Joyce is required. All materials will be provided during the session.

What to Bring

  • Writing materials of your choice (notebook, laptop, tablet)

  • A bottle of water for the duration of the session

  • Comfortable clothing appropriate for the morning

Please aim to arrive by 8:45 AM so we can begin as close to 9:00 AM as possible.

Timing

The workshop is scheduled from 9:00 AM to approximately 11:00 AM.

The session will run for 2 hours, allowing for a slightly relaxed start as participants gather. If you'd like to receive updates about future improv jams and performances, please join our Whatsapp community here:
